Whilst The Compassionate Friends is a non-denominational self-help support organization, we have been asked by Pastor Ronnie Johnson, Station Manager of a relatively new Christian Radio Station called PEFM 87.6 to speak about bereavement every Monday morning from 7.30-8am for at least a year!
This is an amazing opportunity for us to reach, educate and minister to the community. We have been ‘on the air’ for the past six weeks. Presently, we are talking about the first stages: shock and denial, how that stage can take at least two years.
Dawn and I (Eve Murphy) spoke about TCF, I have spoken about my experience with the death of Brendan almost twenty years ago through sudden death by road accident. Lawrie and Isobel have spoken for two Mondays on the death of James and Kate through homicide and I am hoping many more will be able to tell the community about their experience as well as letting them know the disappointments we have experienced by not being understood.
This Monday, and probably the next, I will be talking more on do’s and don’t’s, what has/hasn’t comforted us.
Monique Hunke and Deirdre Hurter are going to speak towards the middle and end of July. If you would like to talk about the beginning of your experience (we will come back again to speak of anger, depression etc) I would love to hear from you! I can also come to you, tape our conversation and Ronnie will air it for us.
I have been told that we can include these talks (if recorded by the Radio Station) on this blog (called Podcasting) I have spoken to Ronnie about this and we are going to look into it.
